PRESS RELEASE: Hong Kong banker Alvin Woon breaks international Financial Modeling record

ModelOff is pleased to announce that Hong Kong’s Alvin Woon has achieved a perfect score in the first round of the 2015 ModelOff Financial Modeling World Championships. This is a first-ever for ModelOff – the world’s largest professional competition for Microsoft Excel, Financial Analysis, Investment Analysis and Financial Modeling.

Woon – a Bank of America Merrill Lynch Analyst – squared off against 4000 hopefuls from around the world in Round 1 of the competition, which comprised of 3 case studies and a multiple choice segment over a strict 2-hour window. He reached the score of 120 out of of a possible 120 across the 4 sections, with the next highest score being 119. There were only 3 scores above 110 across the competition. Alvin will now progress to Round 2 along with other top performers from Round 1.

This year, the top-16 Finalists from Round 2 will be invited to London in December to compete in the ModelOff Financial Modeling Finals and attend the ModelOff Microsoft Excel Global Training Camp. “After his result last year, I knew he was going to start with a strong result. Alvin’s 100% score is very impressive, but I’m not surprised at all, I think he is a huge chance to make it to London and be the World Champion.” said Alex Gordon, ModelOff question designer and ModelOff 2012 Champion.

As the current number 4 in the ModelOff World Rankings and the Runners-Up at ModelOff 2014 Finals in New York City, Alvin will undoubtedly be vying for the top prize in 2015 as well as the Number 1 spot in the World Rankings.

The ModelOff team wishes Alvin all the best for the remainder of this year’s competition.
