The Rockstars of Financial Modeling will be competing for a total purse of close to $50,000 plus interviews with leading global financial institutions, product giveaways and a whole lot more live in New York City on December 6th and 7th. The 3rd annual ModelOff 2014 will test top modelers from over 100 countries and starts with Round 1 on October 25th. It will be a 2 hour online contest held simultaneously around the world and will consist of case studies and a variety of multiple choice questions centered around building financial models, Discounted Cash Flow Modeling as well as Practical, Theory and Excel related problems. To get a sense of the format and challenge of ModelOff, here are a few questions from past competitions.
The top competitors from round 1 will move on to Round 2 held online on November 8th. With a similar format of a 2 hour contest held simulataneously worldwide, the questions will be more challenging. The top 16 contestants from Round 2 will head to ModelOff 2014, live in New York City on December 6th and 7th. All transportation is included and the remaining 16 will battle it out in front of 3 world-class judges:
* Professor Simon Benninga of Tel Aviv University is one of the best known and influential figures in financial modeling.
* Kiel LaFrance is the Head of Americas Financial Modeling at S&P Capital IQ and runs a team tasked with building over 600 models per month for their investment banking clients.
* Bill Jelen “AKA Mr EXCEL” is among the world’s most respected authorities on Microsoft Excel, the host of one of the largest global Excel communities at MrExcel.com and has authored 39 books including Pivot Table Data Crunching and Excel Gurus Gone Wild.
Competitors will be tested in all facets of financial modeling including Innovation, Speed, Data and Risk Understanding, Best Practice Modeling Theory and more. Last year’s grand prize winner took home $30,000 with 2nd place earning $10,000.
