How did you hear about the ModelOff competition? What made you want to get involved?

LinkedIn probably. I like competing.

How did you get so good at Excel? Tell us a bit about your modeling training.

Mainly my first job at an equity long-short hedge fund. A lot of the modelling had to be done very fast and with no mistakes – for example if company specific news come out and we need to figure out the EPS impact on the company before sellside does and starts sending out emails (usually 10-15mins). No real formal training in Excel at all.

What makes you different from the other competitors? What are your strengths?

I think I’m quite fast – comes from experience in other types of competitions, computer gaming, maybe even Rubik’s cube (20sec average).

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received at work?

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Tell us a bit about your life away from work.

My main hobby is Swing Dancing – I’ve been doing it for ~10 years and by now I teach two evenings per week with 15-30 people in class. I also play guitar and recently I’ve been trying to pick up piano. Computer games is another big time sink.

What do you hope comes out of being a ModelOff Finalist?

A lot of LinkedIn views.
