How did you hear about the ModelOff competition? What made you want to get involved?
I had no formal training but rather learned through necessity. I needed to answer questions about potential investments and learning financial modelling was the only way. My model building skills were learned iteratively; each time I encountered a new debt structure, or a new carried interest calculation, I had to understand it fully and then add it to an investment model. After a few months, I was able to step back, see the entire information flow and completely restructure the modelling process.
Tell us a bit about your experiences in Round 1 and 2. Did you think you would make it to the World Finals?
As usual, the questions were well structured and creatively imagined. I never thought I would make it. The other guys here are superstars! I feel a bit like the odd one out sometimes!
What is/are your greatest achievement(s) – either personally or professionally?
Contributing to the success of Tristan Capital Partners through building out much of the firm’s modelling and processes infrastructure.
Tell us a bit about your life away from work.
I am an avid sportsman, traveler and pilot. I love to try new things. Recently, it has been swimming, kite surfing, skydiving, triathlon and rock climbing. I try to spend time outside as possible to get away from computer screens.
